Accessibility Statement

Last reviewed: May 2026

Docent Brewing is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply relevant accessibility standards across our website.

Conformance status

This website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. WCAG defines requirements that improve accessibility for people with disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.

Our approach to accessibility is two-layered. First, the site’s underlying code has been built and audited to meet WCAG standards natively — semantic markup, correct ARIA attributes, heading structure, keyboard focus, and image descriptions are all implemented directly in the site itself, independent of any third-party tool.

In addition, we use accessiBe, an AI-powered accessibility widget, as a supplemental layer. accessiBe provides on-demand user profiles — including screen reader optimization, keyboard navigation mode, and visual adjustments — that go beyond the site’s native implementation to serve a wider range of assistive technology needs.

Native technical measures — built into the site

The following accessibility features are implemented directly in the site’s code and function independently of accessiBe or any third-party tool:

  • Semantic HTML5 with correct landmark regions — header, main, nav, footer
  • All navigation landmarks individually labelled to distinguish Primary, Mobile, and Footer navigation
  • Skip-to-content link present before all other content for keyboard and screen reader users
  • All interactive controls — buttons, navigation toggles, links — carry accessible names via visible text or aria-label
  • All content images have descriptive alt text; purely decorative images are marked with empty alt attributes to be ignored by screen readers
  • Correct heading hierarchy (H1 → H2 → H3) throughout — no skipped levels, no headings used for visual styling
  • Natural keyboard focus order — no positive tabindex values that would disrupt reading sequence
  • Page language declared as en-US for correct screen reader pronunciation
  • Web fonts are self-hosted — no outbound requests to Google Fonts or other third-party font CDNs on page load

Supplemental layer — accessiBe

In addition to the native measures above, accessiBe is installed as a supplemental accessibility service. It operates independently of the site’s built-in accessibility and provides additional support for users who benefit from assistive profiles or who use specific assistive technologies.

accessiBe does not replace the site’s native WCAG implementation — it extends it. The site is designed to be usable by screen readers, keyboard-only users, and other assistive technologies without the widget enabled.

Using the accessibility widget

The accessiBe accessibility widget is available on every page via the icon in the bottom-right corner of your screen. It offers profiles including:

  • Screen Reader: optimizes the site for NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. Press Option + 1 (Mac) or Alt + 1 (Windows) to activate directly.
  • Keyboard Navigation: enables full site navigation using the keyboard only.
  • Visually Impaired: enhances visuals for low vision, tunnel vision, cataracts, and glaucoma.
  • Cognitive Disability: assists with reading and focus.
  • ADHD Friendly: reduces distractions for improved focus.
  • Seizure Safe: eliminates flashes and reduces color to safe combinations.

Known limitations

Some text displayed over photographic background images may not meet the minimum contrast ratio in all circumstances depending on which area of the image appears beneath the text. We are reviewing these areas and will address them in an upcoming update. If you experience difficulty reading any content, please contact us and we will provide the information in an accessible format.
